The 2017 theme for the Business Analysis Summit was ‘Around the World of Business Analysis’ featuring inspiring speakers from four continents. The topic for 2018 is ‘Working with People’. The Summit is a unique chance for you to develop your skills, without the costs and hassle of travel. Summit Intro: Leading Around the BA World
Dr Penny Pullan is your BA Summit Host. She will kick-off your summit on 30th January with a session that takes you around the BA world and answers your questions being a leader in the challenging world of business analysis.
Penny has worked with thousands of business analysts over the past nine years, across industry sectors from banking and finance, through to telecoms and pharmaceuticals. She enjoys making a difference with people grappling with tricky projects. Tricky means anything from risky, with ambiguous requirements, to disengaged stakeholders, probably with a team dispersed around the world. If that’s your world, that’s where Penny is too.
Penny is a director of, Making Projects Work Ltd, and she has hosted the BA Summit since 2010. She is the co-editor of the book: ‘Business Analysis and Leadership: Influencing change’, co-author of ‘A Short Guide to Facilitating Risk Management’ and author of ‘Virtual Leadership: Practical Strategies for Getting the Best out of Virtual Work and Virtual Teams’. Agile and Business Analysis
Lynda Girvan is a Principal Consultant and Trainer for Assist Knowledge Development. Lynda has over 25 years’ experience in business analysis, agile development, agile coaching and transformational change programmes across both public and private sectors.
Lynda developed and leads the Agile business analysis training portfolio for AssistKD and was a key member in the creation and development of the Advanced Diploma in Business Analysis.
Lynda is a co-author of the BCS publication, ‘Agile and Business Analysis’, and has spoken at European and International conferences on agile and business analysis.

Laura Brandenburg, CBAP is the author of the best-selling book How to Start a Business Analyst Career and is an internationally recognized leader known for helping mid-career professionals start business analysis careers.
Laura brings more than a decade of experience in the business analysis profession, filling such roles as a full-time business analyst, consultant, and hiring manager. She brings all of these perspectives into her writing, presenting, coaching, and training to help you find transferable business analysis skills, expand your business analysis experience, and start your business analysis career with confidence. While this talk is aimed primarily at new business analysts, those who mentor business analysts will also find it helpful to guide those who are starting out in the profession.

Mercy Obi

Developing Yourself as an Experienced Business Analyst
Mercy has extensive experience in business analysis, system analysis and data modelling. She has worked in a range of industries in both public and private sector as an independent consultant.
Mercy enjoys working with project professionals grappling with complex requirements and disengaged stakeholders on projects and business transformation programmes to create a simple, persuasive and engaging story together, which deliver immediate benefits and brings clarity. This has the added benefit of helping key stakeholders to become interested and engaged.
Mercy holds a Bsc in Electrical Engineering from Temple University and spoke at the IIBA conferences Europe and USA on ‘Skills and Leadership Development’ and ‘What makes a truly remarkable business analyst’.

Ryan Folster

What can the BA world learn from Africa?
Ryan Folster (CBAP) is a Business Analyst from Johannesburg South Africa. His strong focus on innovation as well as involvement in the Business Analyst community have seen Ryan develop professionally from a small company, serving a small amount of users, to large multi-national organisations. Having merged into Business Analysis through the business domain, Ryan has developed a firm grounding and provides context to the methodologies applied to clients and projects he is working on.
Ryan has gained exposure to the Human Resources, Asset Management as well as Financial Services sectors, working on projects that span from Enterprise Line of Business Software to Business Intelligence and Compliance. Ryan is also heavily involved in the local chapter of IIBA, currently holding the position of President. Ryan is passionate about the role a Business Analyst plays within an organisation, and is a firm believer that the role will develop further in the future and become a crucial aspect of any successful business.

Kim Quirke is a senior business analyst who is passionate about bringing creativity into the work place, helping to bring back the balance between the visual and the verbal.
She likes using pictures to help encourage better discussions, foster a common understanding and create documents that people actually want to read and contribute to.
